What is a micronation?

Generally, a micronation is any self-proclaimed nation whose sovereignty is not recognized by any legitimate world government. A micronation can take many forms, including:

-
A collection of brave souls trying to establish a new country.
-
A group of people claiming sovereignty from an existing government.
-
A model country that exists solely as work of fiction, or just for fun.
-
A tiny jurisdiction that has escaped the notice of major powers.
